AFCON (African Cup of Nations) 2019 was held in Egypt. There were some surprising results. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) organizes the football tournament. AFCON 2019 featured 24 teams from the 54 African countries. It is a biennial event – the next Africa Cup of Nations will be held in Cameroon in 2021.
There were 6 initial Groups in the recently expanded tournament. The 2017 edition started with 16 teams playing in 4 groups. The tournament has been expanded from 16 to 24 teams. The 2019 edition run from June 21 to July 19th.
Four Egyptian cities and six venues hosted the 2019 edition. These cities are Cairo, Alexandria, Suez and Ismailia. Cairo International Stadium, in the capital, hosted the opening and final matches.
Africa Cup 2019 Quarter-finals were on 10th and 11th of July. The AFCON semi-finals were to be played on 14th of July. The final match of the 2019 Africa Cup was played on the 19th of July. Algeria beat Senegal 1-0 in the finals.

The 24 teams/ nations that qualified during the Africa Cup qualifiers for the 2019 finals (in alphabetical order) were: Algeria, Angola, Benin, Burundi, Cameroon, DR Congo, Egypt, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Namibia, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda and Zimbabwe.

His Liverpool teammate, Mohamed Salah, was leading the Egyptian quest for glory in the 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
